David Elgas

David is the owner and primary guide of Coastal Kayak Tours located on Oahu.  In 2011 David was nominated for “kayak fishing guide of the year” by kayak fishing radio.  The same year David was awarded The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary “Certificate of Appreciation” for outstanding cooperation and assistance in teaching kayak fishing safety.  In 2009 David Elgas was awarded “Kayak Fishing Ambassador of the year” by the Aqua Hunters for the work he has done promoting and growing the sport of kayak fishing in Hawaii.  David has appeared on 0C-16’s TV show “Tiny TV” to promote kayak fishing and kayak safety.  David also appeared in two episodes of Ben Wong’s TV show “Let’s Go Fishing”.  These TV segments also featured kayak fishing in Hawaii.  David is an established writer, being published for over 3 years.  He has written articles for Kayak Fishing and is currently a full time staff writer for Hawaii Fishing News.  David is also a featured writer in author Cory Routh’s book, “Kayak Fishing, The Complete Guide”.  David currently holds the world record for biggest barracuda caught on a kayak, a whopping 65.5 pound toothy beast caught near Oahu’s rugged kaena point.  In addition David is a Pro Staff Kayak Angler on the Hobie Kayak Fishing Team and is currently sponsored by Windward Boats and numerous other companies.  David regularly teaches at kayak fishing clinics and appears at various trade shows yearly to give presentations and demonstrations about kayak fishing.  David has fished the Hawaiian Islands, North America, and Mexico.  David takes safety seriously and is a certified advanced life guard, trained by the American Red Cross.  David has competed and placed in numerous kayak fishing tournaments as well as hosts two annual fishing tournaments a year of his own.  A life long water man living on the north shore of Oahu for 25 years, David’s passion for kayak fishing is extremely contagious.
